Jan Pentland Dinner
The Jan Pentland Foundation hosted a dinner in honour of Jan on Wednesday 9th June 2010 where the winner of the inaugural Jan Pentland Foundation Scholarship was announced. The scholarship will help its recipient with the costs of studying to become a financial counsellor.
All 21 applicants shared Jan's life-long commitment to social justice and financial counselling, making it a difficult decision for the judges! So, in the end, the trustees decided to award two scholarships this year.
One went to a financial counselling veteran, Cheryl Buttigieg, so she can finally gain the formal recognition and training she so obviously deserves.
The other scholarship was awarded to Mwajemi Hussein. Mwajemi already has a track record of helping disadvantaged communities and the scholarship will enable her to expand the assistance offered to the African community in her home state of South Australia.
Both Cheryl and Mwajemi will use the scholarship to obtain the Diploma in Community Services (Financial Counselling).
